Raymond Bates started his journey towards becoming a landscaper at a very young age. At seven he created "a garden for my grandma." His Dutch grandparents lived in British Columbia and had a garden that was frequently photographed by tourists from all over the world. Raymond spent many summers there and was influenced by the beauty and the peace that a beautiful garden provides.

Although born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, after graduation, Raymond spent a year travelling abroad and working on Australian farms. Upon his return, he began yard maintenance with an old trailer and a car that was "not so gently used." The yard maintenance grew into the creation of beautiful landscapes and courtyards that are a source of delight for customers. Today, Courtyard Landscaping has a long list of satisfied commercial and residential clients who retain the company for their winter and summer needs.
