Founded in 1968 in Saskatoon, Plainsman expanded rapidly and opened a branch in Kamloops in 1970. Kamloops was one of seven branches across Western Canada and in 1987 the head office was relocated to Kamloops. Plainsman is proud to have their head office in Kamloops and believes in being a strong corporate citizen, having provided support to a number of community initiatives in and around the Kamloops area. Plainsman has also taken a very active leadership role with industry related activities. The president of Plainsman, Mr. Jim Thomson, has served as President of the Canadian Home Builders Association at the Local, Provincial and National level. In addition, Mr. Thomson has served on a committee of the National Research Council, was Chairman of the New Home Warranty Program of BC and the Yukon, as well as a past Chairman of the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust. Having their head office located in Kamloops allows Plainsman to provide hands on, timely, quality service to all their projects in the surrounding area.
Plainsman is well known in and around Kamloops, and has a strong reputation of completing all their projects ahead of schedule and under budget. Over the last several years, Plainsman construction has completed the local Ministry of Transportation building and the local Ministry of Forests and Range building. In building these buildings, Plainsman had to work with a large network of government employees involved with decision making for both buildings. Plainsman Construction has a wealth of experience managing and coordinating teams of decision makers to ensure a quality finished project.
Plainsman takes pride in its leadership role with respect to Green building initiatives, as well as, being a leader with respect to Safe Building Practices and Safety Training. Recently, the Company completed two design, build and lease back developments under LEED Silver accreditation criteria. The only private sector projects of this type to achieve this level of LEED accreditation in the Kamloops region.
